How to Increase Your Restaurant's Online Visibility

Many restaurant owners have found that their customers' constant connectivity to the internet and new web applications has been both a blessing and a curse for business. On one hand, customers can conduct online searches to find out about restaurants they never would have visited or heard of. Restaurant owners may be happy to find that customers are sharing good reviews of the restaurant with the rest of the online community - thus providing a free source of good marketing for te restaurant. On the other hand, a restaurant could face serious problems if customers encounter bad reviews online or even worse - can't find information about that restaurant online. Here are several tips for how to ensure that your restaurant business is not only highly visible online, but is also being shown in its best light:
1. Conduct a Google search on your own business
There is no better way to find out about how your business appears online than by "Googling yourself." Type in the name of your restaurant and browse through the first few pages of Google's search results to see what your potential customers are seeing. Because Google is beginning to personalize its search results, sure to conduct the search from multiple computers or ask friends or family to do the search as well. You may be shocked to find that the first few results include websites that display ratings and reviews by people you don't even know. These sites will prove to be an extremely valuable asset to your business so learn to monitor them consistently.
2. Implement Search Engine Optimization tactics
Upon searching for your site, you may find that your own restaurant's website is not the first item listed on the results, and that sites like Yelp! or MenuPages are trumping your site's rankings. In order to increase the credibility of your site, you will need to make sure that certain Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tactics are being implemented so your site comes up first. There is a ton of free information available online to help you learn how to use SEO on your website. The last thing you want is for a less-than-perfect review of your restaurant to show up before your restaurant's actual website.
3. Be sure to stay active on Facebook and Twitter
These days, Google and other search engines love Facebook and Twitter. If you create pages on Facebook and Twitter for your restaurant and keep them updated, it is almost a guarantee that more customers will find you via these sites. And best of all - you can control the content, which will help you to show off the good points about your restaurant. Not enough can be said about social media marketing and its capacity to increase your customer base.
4. What to do if the reviews don't look too great
Did you encounter that either customers, bloggers, or other reviewers posted something to the web that might be detrimental to your business? There are two ways to confront this problem: either encourage your loyal customers to go home and "drown out" the review with other, more positive reviews, or simply consider the bad reviews as constructive criticism. Sometimes reading the bad reviews are the very thing that restaurant business owners need to gain some perspective about how their business is doing. If the reviews that you find are truly harmful to the point of being libelous, consider contacting the review sites. These sites always have procedures in place to take down harmful or abusive reviews.

Pareto's Principal Applied to Running a Cafe, Takeaway or Restaurant

Increased turnover and sales in your café, takeaway or restaurant does not equate to increased profit. Too often as business owners we focus so heavily on increasing our sales in the hope that our business will become more profitable, when the unwanted truth is often not in the turnover but the efficiency of the business.
An inefficient business that makes small sales or a small turnover has the potential through small oversights to make small losses. Conversely a large inefficient business making large sales and large turnovers has the propensity to make large losses. I call this the rule of relative inefficiency. Profits will only ever be relative to sales when you're business is running efficiently. That is when your wages, cost of goods purchased, and overheads are relative to your sales. I have seen and also owned and run small well run cafes that have been more profitable than larger more inefficient cafes. Try the following principal to help you tighten the bolts on your hospitality business:
Investigate Pareto's Principal, the 80/20 rule and how it applies in your business. Pareto's law suggests that the 20 percent of something will be vital to your business and the 80 percent trivial or that 20 percent of your effort will result in 80 percent of your results.
One example of Pareto's law in the instance of café, takeaway and restaurant management dictates that 20 percent of your products can be attributable to a greater level of profit than the other 80 percent of your stock. I was looking over my Coke ordering the other day and identified the 80/20 rule clearly there. The vital 20 percent was in the sales of black coke and water, which far outweighed the sales of all other coke varieties. I have also identified Pareto's law in the gross profits our products generate. If you consider that perhaps as in the example of Coke sales above that you are making little gross profit on the sales of the 20 percent (Black Coke and Water) but you are making a good gross profit on the other 80 percent of coke products. You may find overall your cost of goods sold as a percentage of turnover isn't too good. With the required adjustments on either the purchase price, the sale price or both on the 20 percent you will likely see a marked improvement to your overall bottom line.
If you consider that 20 percent of something is potentially responsible for 80 percent of the results, as a business owner or manager you should be spending some time considering whether or not you're allocating more of your time to the 20 percent or the 80%. You should consider outsourcing or delegating the 80 percent of tasks that are essentially trivial and largely inconsequential and focusing on the 20 percent that counts towards your business growth.
Consider the following applications also 80 percent of your stock comes from 20 percent of your suppliers. Are you misallocating your time with suppliers? Also 80 percent of your sales will come from 20percent of your staff. How should this affect your roster? 20 percent of your staff will cause 80 percent of your problems, but another 20 percent of your staff will provide 80 percent of your productivity. Can this aid in cutting back rosters? Absolutely, but you must learn to identify the attributable 20 percent.
What Pareto's principal is ultimately trying to teach us is to focus on the 20 percent that matters and remember that often 20 percent of something is responsible for 80 percent of the result. Do this and your business will profit.

How About Cost Per Action Marketing As An Online Home Based Business?

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular methods for making money online today for beginners as well as for more experienced Internet marketers. And one of the fastest ways to make a living on the web as a home based business owner is by getting involved with a branch of affiliate marketing called cost per action or CPA marketing.
CPA marketing involves driving targeted leads to a company's or an advertiser's product offer on their website and having them perform some action such as submitting their email address or filling out a form. When the prospect performs the required action you get paid. As an affiliate you also earn more commission if the person purchases the product after fulfilling the initial requirement.
There are essentially three participants in the CPA approach beginning with you as the affiliate, followed by the company or the advertiser and ending with the middle man in this scenario the CPA network. We're all familiar with the roles played by the affiliates and the advertisers in this situation but what function does the network perform?
Cost per action networks act as the go between for the affiliates and the companies. These networks display a list of offers available from a variety of advertisers along with the payment you as the affiliate will receive when your lead performs the required action. These networks are paid by the companies involved for each lead the network acquires for them via their affiliates.
Therefore your primary goal starting out is to get accepted by one of these CPA networks so you can gain access to their list of opportunities and get paid by supplying leads for the companies involved.
The key to earning money quickly through this affiliate marketing technique is to drive targeted traffic to these company's websites because these prospects must be interested in the offer if they're going to perform the necessary act so you can get paid. The CPA networks assist in this process by enticing your leads to do what needs to be done by offering them a free gift for performing the action.
Two of the biggest advantages of using CPA marketing as a home business model is you don't have to sell anything in order to get paid and your start-up costs are minimal at most. Of course this means you don't need a product to get started, you don't have to create your own information merchandise in order to succeed as an affiliate and you don't have to deal with customer service issues or the related headaches involved.
So if you're just starting out online and you're looking for a way to make some fast money with only a small investment cost per action affiliate marketing may be your best choice.

See Yourself To Success Online

An Internet business is an exciting prospect and a very exciting journey, especially if you make money! When you make your very first sale or commission online, there is nothing like it. No matter whether small or big, it is a great feeling and one that gives you hope for more.
Internet marketing and running an online business is no different from a traditional bricks and mortar business. Only the strategies and tools are different. As such the common factors of success is universal no matter what business platform you choose.
If you talk to very successful entrepreneurs, you will find that their mindset and belief was a huge factor. These 'soft skills' or techniques are increasingly recognised as being as important online as they were offline. Very successful Internet marketers, those that earn 6-7 figure incomes, they all preach the power and important of the mindset. Of these visualization is one such technique, and a simple one at that.
Being able to see what you are wanting to achieve and imagining yourself in the situation as if it was true and living it is a very powerful practice. It is a recommended practice to spend at least 5-10 minutes each day visualizing your goals with your successful Internet business and the lifestyle and benefits it will all bring to you and your family.
Simply close your eyes and see yourself living the dream lifestyle and owning a wildly profitable and successful online operation. Not only can you visualize this, but if you can get into the feeling that it is a reality and a certainty, then your visualization exercise gains even more power!
All the rich and successful business people do this. It might seem a bit 'out there' for you but if someone is earning a 6-7 figure income and tells you that this is what they do on a daily basis and how important it was and is for their success, then why would you not do it? It only takes 5-10 minutes and it works. Of course do not expect overnight changes, but it is a powerful exercise that can focus your mind. Certainly when times are tough and the motivation wanes, it's a powerful and effective way of renewing your enthusiasm and motivation to continuing working towards your goals. It reminds you why you are putting all of your effort into your business and keeps you going. If you end up joining some sort of Internet business opportunity, try and find one that understands the importance of a positive mindset and helps you to develop one. Who knows how it actually works, and if it works, who cares! Try it, it's free, what have you to lose?

Giant Fossil Shows Huge Birds Lived Among Dinosaurs

The fossilised jawbone is nearly twice the length of that of an ostrich, the largest bird found on Earth today

An enormous jawbone found in Kazakhstan is further evidence that giant birds roamed - or flew above - the Earth at the same time as the dinosaurs.
Writing in Biology Letters, researchers say the new species, Samrukia nessovi, had a skull some 30cm long.
If flightless, the bird would have been 2-3m tall; if it flew, it may have had a wingspan of 4m.
The find is only the second bird of such a size in the Cretaceous geologic period, and the first in Asia.
The only other evidence of a bird of such a size during the period was a fossilised spinal bone found in France and reported in a 1995 paper in Nature.

Sharing space

An overwhelming majority of the birds known from the period would have been about crow-sized, but Dr Darren Naish of the University of Portsmouth said that a second find of an evidently different species suggests that large birds were common at the time.
"This fossil is only known from its lower jaw, so unfortunately we can't say anything at all with certainty about the shape and form of the whole animal.
"If it was flightless and sort of ostrich-shaped, it would have been maybe 2-3m tall and somewhere over 50kg," he explained to BBC News. "If it was a flying animal, then maybe it was shaped like a big albatross or a condor."
Dr Naish also wondered about the dinosaurs with which the enormous birds shared their space.
"I think the really interesting thing is that they're living alongside the big dinosaurs we know were around at the time: big tyrannosaurs, long-necked sauropods, duck-billed dinosaurs," he said. "That opens up loads of questions about ecological interactions that we can only speculate about.
"People have said there weren't big birds when there were big pterosaurs, but now we know there were."
